IET DPC Cable Guide

The IET has published the DPC Guide to Cables and Cable Management draft version for comment. Once completed, this guide is intended to provide assistance with cable selection and specification for designers, installers, and contractors.

The guide covers a range of cables, including fibre, coaxial, data, telecom, flex, building control and fire performance cables. Guidance is also provided on some specialist cables, including overhead cables, electric vehicle charging cable, welding cables, and high temperature cables.
The IET guide also has a section about cable management, including the use of modular systems, conduit, trunking, ducting, and cable trays. This section also includes an explanation of the IP rating system.
Additionally, the guide also includes a section on counterfeit and substandard cable, and guidance on the use of CCA cable, and when CCA can be a viable alternative to full copper in certain applications.
The guide is only in draft format at present, and has been published for comment and review. Any comments concerning the content or accuracy of the draft guide should be submitted using the IET’s own form, and the period for receipt of DPC comments closes on Friday 2 August 2019.
