The UK government has recently released some research that estimates that local businesses in areas covered by the rollout of superfast broadband have experience a £9million increase in turnover.

The Department for Culture Media and Sport (DCMS) says that it has delivered on its manifesto commitment to 95% of businesses and homes by the end of 2017. Around £1.6 billion of public investment was used, and estimates suggest that 1 million more UK businesses and homes can now access superfast speeds. This means that over the next few years, approximately 98% of the UK will have access to superfast speeds.
Reports suggest that for every pound invested by local and national authorities, the superfast broadband programme has delivered £12.28 of benefit, meaning a £9 billion increase in business turnover. More superfast projects have been announced (probably as a result of the apparent benefits of the current programme). The Universal Service Obligation (USO) is intended to provide UK-wide access to fast and affordable broadband by 2020. In addition, the government also intends to deliver nationwide gigabit-capable (1000Mb/s) connectivity by 2033.
