Meet The Team - Chris Mellor-Dolman

What's your role at Webro?
Head of Marketing

How many years have you been in the cable industry?
Just a year! Previously I’ve worked across a number of industries including construction, oil, food retailing, and motorcycle apparel. Thankfully, like accounting skills, marketing expertise is transferable (I hope!).

What did you want to be when you were growing up?
It changed like the wind throughout my childhood, and included everything from being a vet to a drummer in an indie band.

What’s the best thing about working at Webro?
Undoubtedly the people. We’re very lucky to work in a trusting environment with a cohesive team where everyone can be themselves, has a voice that’s heard, and has the freedom to do what they do best.

What’s your favourite holiday destination?
My family and I love city breaks, and Rome hit the top of the list recently. That said, nothing has beaten our Australian trip from a few years back. A truly stunning country.

Any pets?
We have an 11-year-old British Shorthair cat called Lola. Much to her disgust she’s recently been joined by our new Cavapoo puppy, Woody, who’s essentially taken over our lives, our house, and any spare time we used to have!

Favourite sports team?
As a die-hard Leicester City fan I’ve seen it all over the past ten or so seasons. As someone said to me recently, it’s the hope that kills you as a football fan! I can’t say I’m chuffed to be languishing in the Championship this season after the recent highs, but I’m sure we’ll be back on the big stage before long!

What 3 words that best describe you?
Calm, kind, and adventurous.

What would you do if you won big on the Lottery?
First, I’d get the round-the-world trip with my family out of my system, taking in as many of the biggest sporting events, big name concerts etc. on the way as we could. Then I’d treat family & friends to an all-expenses paid holiday on a remote island somewhere. After that I’d need a purpose, so setting up a children’s mental health charity would be my focus, which I think would be hugely rewarding.

What’s your favourite food?
I love Italian food and could happily live on it for the rest of my days.

What annoys you more than anything else?
General disrespect – for people, property, anything.

What superpower would you like to have?
The brain power to unravel the ultimate question that no one has yet answered – is the universe infinite - and if so, how you explain that?!!

What’s your favourite film, and why?
That’s a tough one – I have so many! If pushed though I’d put ‘Bladerunner’ and Monty Python’s ‘Life of Brian’ in joint first place. Both classics in my eyes.

What do you like to do when you’re not working?
I’m a keen runner with my local club, doing 5k’s, 10k’s and half-marathons. I love comedy and music and get to gigs whenever I can with family & friends. And I love being in the great outdoors, with National Trust properties and National Parks being top of the list.

Who’s your favourite band/singer?
Maybe unknown to most, but my favourite singer is Richard Hawley, formerly of Pulp fame. A phenomenal song writer and guitarist with just the right gravelly voice to deliver his real-life lyrics. A true hero of mine.

What’s your ‘go to’ karaoke song?
Has to be ‘Dignity’ by Deacon Blue. I’m no Ricky Ross, but I give it a good go!

Who would you swap places with for a day, and why?
David Attenborough has led the most fascinating life. If I could condense his travels and all that he’s seen into one day, then what could possibly top that?!

What was your favourite subject at school, and why?
English was the subject I loved above all others. Words and language have always captivated me, and I’m lucky to have found a career path in which I can play with them every day and get paid for it!

Who would be your desert island companion of choice?
Billy Connolly is another lifelong icon of mine. Whiling away the days with him sharing his anecdotes would be joyous.

What’s the best advice that you’ve ever been given?
Live every day as if it’s your last, because one of them will be.

What’s your favourite cable?
The truly innovative Webro WEB-LED Cable!

Is there anything else you'd like us to know about you?
I’m a Black Belt in Aikido… but it’s Fight Club, and the first rule of Fight Club is that we don’t talk about it!
