Pam Sails Away Into Retirement
After over 11 years of dedicated service our beloved credit control ‘sage’ Pam is hanging up her Excel spreadsheets! As a waterways baby living on a narrow boat, Pam is quite literally 'sailing away' into retirement.
Find out what more Pam's time at Webro, and what she’s about to get up to...
How many years have you worked at Webro for?
11 years and 4 months.
What does it feel like to reach retirement?
Great, but I will be honest and say that it’s taken me a couple of years to get used to the idea. There were several factors. I have worked since I was 17 years old, so it’s a substantial change to think that I’ll have all that time at home.
I have several different interests outside of work. Firstly, I have lived with my husband on a 57-foot narrowboat for the last 16 years. We’re really looking forward to spending our summers wandering the waterways with no time schedules, and then just settling back into the marina for winter.
We have twelve grandchildren and two great grandchildren too, so say no more!
I love hiking in the Peak District. I’ve set myself the challenge to bag all 95 Ethels (hills over 400m) and 88 Trig Points - as well as completing all 9 Edge walks. I’m also a member of the Peak Park Conservation Volunteers, so that will certainly keep me busy.
I am also a big Tolkien fan, so I’ll look forward to getting down to lots of reading when I can. I love sewing and crochet too. I really don’t plan to get bored!
What have you enjoyed most during your time at Webro?
The people, both colleagues and customers. My role was credit control, but it was nice talking with my counterparts and dealing with challenges and queries - not just chasing money.
What’s been the biggest change that you’ve seen during your Webro time?
The biggest change was going completely paperless in the accounts office during the pandemic. We had made a 3-year plan prior to Covid to do this, but it became 6 months!
What’s been your best moment?
I don’t think that there’s been a single best moment, but I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Webro. I have worked through several changes at the top during my time here. All quite different, but still the same continuous thread of family and friendship running through the core.
What are you most proud of?
Studying my AAT exams into my 50’s. You’re never too old to learn new things. Every day's a school day as they say!
What will you miss most upon leaving Webro?
My colleagues, without a doubt.
What will you miss the least upon leaving Webro?
The 6am alarm, and the Monday to Friday 9-to-5 routine!
From her friends and colleagues at Webro, we want to thank Pam for her outstanding service and dedication, and to wish her the very happiest time in retirement.
