Bespoke Cables

Bespoke cables

With such a vast array of copper and fibre optic cables on offer, it's hard to believe that there isn't always the right cable for your application.

So what happens when you can’t find the cable that you’re looking for? Thankfully, we have the resources to produce cables to meet your specific requirements for specialist use.

Whether it’s changing the jacket colour on a standard cable to make it easier to identify, adding armour to protect against vandalism or rodents, or bundling multiple cables for easy routing and identification – we can provide you with the unique solution that you need.

This is an overview of the bespoke services that Webro can offer:

External & duct grade sheaths

We can take a standard cable and add a further sheath material to ensure the cable is robust enough to be installed externally, or run through ducts. It’s usually over sheathed in either Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE) or High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE).

LDPE is reasonably flexible and offers good mechanical resistance. It’s waterproof and UV stable, making it ideal for smaller cables such as ethernet, Belden alternatives, and control cables.

HDPE is usually used on larger cables where flexibility isn’t a priority and extra mechanical protection is needed. It’s also waterproof and UV stable.

This option is available for quantities as low as 100m, and allows you to use a standard cable with the above added benefits.

Armouring

If your installation requires additional protection, then adding steel wire armour (SWA) might be the perfect solution. Again, for quantities as low as 100m we can take a standard cable and make it rodent or vandal proof. It’s also ideal if the cable is being directly buried. The cable can then be sheathed in polyethylene for external use, or developed as a Low Smoke Non-Halogen (LSNH) solution if flame retardance is required.

Galvanised steel or tinned copper braiding

Sometimes cables need to be identified within a system. Sheathing them in different colours is a quick and cost-effective solution. Taking a standard product and skinning it in a different jacket colour on low quantities is often a better option than working to a manufacturer’s minimum order quantity. This service is usually available across most jacket materials within two weeks.

Of course, if the requirement is for a manufactured quantity this can be achieved too with a significant cost saving.

Printing

If you’re looking for a truly bespoke cable, it can be produced with your company or brand name, identification mark, batch number, or a variety of other identifiers to personalise it.

Pre-made leads & assemblies

If you need quick and easy installation on site, then terminated cables are the ideal solution. Confirm the specific cable and the length that it needs to be terminated at, and we’ll do the rest.

Custom & bespoke cables

If the options listed above don’t meet your requirements you have the option for your cable to be custom made. With nearly four centuries of in-house cable expertise, we’ll work with you to create your ideal solution

Things to consider in the process are:

  • What conductor size(s), core, and pair combinations are required?
  • Is there a specific insulation material or voltage rating requirement?
  • Are any screens needed for reducing electromagnetic interference, or armouring, or braiding for mechanical protection?
  • What outer sheath material will be used, and does it need weather resistance or chemical resistance?
  • Does your cable require different elements - coaxial cable combined with data or control for example?
  • Are there any environmental considerations such as temperature, sunlight, or water?
  • Will the cable come into contact with any chemicals, oils, waste, or acid?
  • Are there any approvals or testing requirements that may be important to evidence the cable’s suitability for the application?
  • How will the cable be packaged, and what length(s) will it need to be supplied in?
