The UK has made great improvements with FTTH connections in 2020, according to research from the FTTH Council.

The FTTH Council research shows that the UK has increased fibre connections by 1.7 million in 2020, which is an increase of 65% on the year before. Additionally, the report also mentions that it is Altnets that are leading the increase in fibre connections, ‘with a contribution of around 57% of the total fibre expansion’.

Whilst these figures are definitely encouraging, there is still considerable progress to be made, as the report calculates that only 3.7% of UK households are currently receiving fibre connectivity. Indeed, the UK is one of three countries lagging behind the rest of Europe (along with Germany & Italy), who still account for almost 60% of the entire remaining homes to be connected in the continent.
