UKCA Marking Of Cables To Continue

There has been a lot of confusion of late surrounding the UKCA marking of cables and whether it needs to continue.

Some reports recently have suggested that CE marking is to be retained indefinitely. This is true, but only for 18 different regulations that fall under the Department for Business and Trade (DBT). This includes a range of products, including toys, pyrotechnics, lifts, and measuring equipment.

However, it is extremely important to note that this does not apply to cables. Construction products, of which cables are part, have not been mentioned in the revised guidance.

For these, the guidance provides a clear timeline. The plan is to cease the recognition of the CE mark in Great Britain by June 30, 2025. Following this date, it will be obligatory to exclusively use the UKCA mark for products sold within Great Britain. Crucially, until June 30, 2025, products can be provided with either the CE mark or the UKCA mark, or both.
